Yamaha®

This setup information applies to the Yamaha® 01V96, 02R96, CL1, CL3, CL5, DM1000, DM2000, LS9-16, LS9-32, M7CL-48, and PM5D using the Ross SMC-9901 Serial to MIDI Converter.

Refer to the documentation that came with the SMC-9901 Serial to MIDI Converter for setup information.

Cable Connections

The device connects to the switcher through the SMC-9901 Serial to MIDI Converter. Two standard MIDI interface cables are used to connect the device to the SMC-9901, and a single DB9 to DB9 serial RS-422 cable is used to connect the SMC-9901 to the switcher.

Tip: If an ethernet connection is required, a Comtrol® DeviceMaster® can be used to connect to the switcher over ethernet and to the device over serial. Refer to the Comtrol® cutsheet for setup information and pinouts.

Switcher Setup

The switcher must be set up to communicate with the audio mixer using either serial or ethernet protocols, as well as associate the audio channels on the mixer with video sources coming into the switcher.

To Set Up Communications

  1. Press HOME > Setup > Installation > Com Setup
  2. Press Type and use the Com Port knob to select the remote port that you want to set up for the device.
  3. Use the Device knob to select Audio Mixer.
  4. Press Select Device and use the Device knob to select your device.
    • 01V96 — select Ya 01V96.
    • 02R96 — select Ya 02R96.
    • CL1 — select Ya CL1
    • CL3 — select Ya CL3
    • CL5 — select Ya CL5
    • DM1000 — select Ya DM1000.
    • DM2000 — select Ya DM2000.
    • LS9-16 — select Ya LS9-16.
    • LS9-32 — select Ya LS9-32.
    • M7CL-48 — select Ya M7CL.
    • PM5D — select Ya PM5D.
  5. Press Com Type and use the Type knob to select RS-422.
  6. Press Com Settings and use the Baud and Parity knobs to select 38400 (Baud) and NONE (Parity).
  7. Press Extra Options and use the Option and Value knobs to set the device parameters.

  8. Press HOME > Confirm.

To Set Up a Video Input

Tip: Refer to your switcher Setup manual for information on setting up audio groups.
  1. Press HOME > Setup > Installation > Source Configuration > Audio.
  2. Use the Input knob to select the input source that you want to assign an audio channel or group to.
  3. Use the Audio X knob to select the audio channel, or group, that you want to assign to the selected source. You can assign up to two channels or groups.
  4. Press HOME > Confirm.

Device Setup

The device must be set up to communicate with the switcher using the same serial or ethernet communications as you set the switcher up to use.

To Set Up Serial Communication for the 01V96

  1. Press the DIO/SETUP function button on the Display Access Group.
  2. Press the MIDI/HOST tab.
  3. Use the cursor buttons to navigate to the following (you must press ENTER after each selection):
    1. Set Tx PORT to MIDI.
    2. Set Rx PORT to MIDI.
  4. Press the MIDI function button on the Display Access Group.
  5. Press the SETUP tab.
  6. Use the cursor buttons to navigate to the following:

To Set Up Serial Communication for the 02R96

  1. Press the SETUP function button in the Display Access Group.
  2. Press the MIDI/HOST tab.
  3. Use the parameter dial to set the following:
    1. Set Tx PORT to MIDI.
    2. Set Rx PORT to MIDI.
  4. Press the MIDI function button in the Display Access Group.
  5. Press the SETUP tab.
  6. Use the cursor buttons to navigate to the following (you will have to press ENTER after each selection):
    • Set Tx CH to 1 using the parameter dial.
    • Set Rx CH to 1 using the parameter dial.
    Note: If you are ganging multiple audio mixers, you must set the second audio mixer to Tx CH 2 and Rx CH 2.

    Set the remaining parameters as indicated.

  1. Press SETUP in the Function Access Area.
  2. Press MIDI/GPI.
  3. Press MIDI SETUP.
  4. Configure the MIDI SETUP according to the following table.

    1. Set TO SERIAL HOST to PC-2.
    2. Set Rx PORT to MIDI.
    3. Set Tx PORT to MIDI.
  4. Press the MIDI function button on the Display Access Group.
  5. Press the SETUP tab.
  6. Use the cursor buttons to navigate to the RECEIVE section and set the following:

  1. Press the SETUP function button on the Display Access Group.
  2. Press the MIDI/HOST tab.
  3. Use the cursor buttons to navigate to the following (you must press ENTER after each selection):
    1. Set TO SERIAL HOST to PC-2.
    2. Set Rx PORT to MIDI.
    3. Set Tx PORT to MIDI.
  4. Press the MIDI function button on the Display Access Group.
  5. Press the SETUP tab.
  6. Use the cursor buttons to navigate to the RECEIVE section and set the following, all other parameters should be deselected (you will have to press ENTER after each selection):
    • Channel 1
    • PROGRAM CHANGE
    • PARAMETER CHG
    • CONTROL CHANGE
  7. Use the cursor buttons to navigate to the TRANSMIT section and set the following, all other parameters should be deselected (you will have to press ENTER after each selection):
    • Channel 1
    • PROGRAM CHANGE
    • PARAMETER CHG
    • CONTROL CHANGE
  8. Deselect all items in the OMNI section and press ENTER.
  9. Deselect all items in the ECHO section and press ENTER.

To Set Up Serial Communication for the LS9-16/LS9-32

  1. Press the SETUP function button in the Display Access Group.
  2. Use the cursor buttons to select MIDI Setup and press ENTER.
  3. Use the cursor buttons to navigate to the following (you must press ENTER after each selection):

  4. Use the cursor buttons to set the MODE to MULTI, OMNI, and NRPN.

To Set Up Serial Communication for the M7CL-48

Tip: If you are using OverDrive®, note that the 8 Matrix Buses of the M7CL-48 are controlled as Audio Aux Buses 1-8 and the first 4 Mix Buses of the M7CL-48 are controlled as Audio Aux Buses 9-12.
  1. Press the MIDI/Remote function button in the Display Access Group.
  2. Press the MIDI/Remote button.
  3. In the MIDI Port row of the MIDI SETUP screen, select the following (you must press ENTER after each selection):
    • In the Tx column - Use the Track Pad buttons to select MIDI.
    • In the Rx column - Use the Track Pad buttons to select MIDI.
  4. In the Single Mode MIDI CH row of the MIDI SETUP screen, select the following values (you must press ENTER after each selection):

To Set Up Serial Communication for the PM5D

  1. Press the MIDI/Remote function button in the Display Access Group.
  2. Press the MIDI/Remote button.
  3. In the MIDI Port row of the MIDI SETUP screen, select the following (you must press ENTER after each selection):
    • In the Tx column - Use the Track Pad buttons to select MIDI.
    • In the Rx column - Use the Track Pad buttons to select MIDI.
  4. In the Single Mode MIDI CH row of the MIDI SETUP screen, select the following values (you must press ENTER after each selection):

    Program Change ON ON OFF
    Control Change OFF OFF OFF
    Parameter Change ON ON OFF
