TSL UMD Protocol Setup
This setup information applies to the TSL UMD protocol.
The switcher supports both the input and output of TSL UMD tally and label information.
- Input — version 3.1 or 5.0
- Output — version 5.0
Cable Connections
The device connects to the switcher over either an RS-422 serial connection to a DB9 port on the switcher, or a TCP/IP ethernet connection.

TSL Input Switcher Setup
To Set Up Serial Communications
- Press HOME > Setup > Installation > Com Setup
- Press Type and use the Com Port knob to select the remote port that you want to set up for the device.
- Use the Device knob to select UMD Input.
- Press Select Device and use the Device knob to select TSL UMD.
- Press Com Type and use the Type knob to select RS-422.
- Press Com Settings and use the Baud and Parity knobs to select 38400 (Baud) and EVEN (Parity).

Press Extra Options and use the Option and Value knobs to set the device
parameters.
Option Value MV Names OFF (default) Version Set the TSL version you want to use. Clear Spaces Trim off leading and trailing spaces, as well as non-printable characters, from the labels. Screen Select the screen address that you want to listen to. - Press HOME > Confirm.
To Set Up Ethernet Communications
- Press HOME > Setup > Installation > Com Setup
- Press Type and use the Com Port knob to select the net port that you want to set up for the device.
- Use the Device knob to select UMD Input.
- Press Select Device and use the Device knob to select TSL UMD.
- Press Com Type and use the Type knob to select Network TCP.

Settings.

To Set Up a Video Input
- Press HOME > Setup > Installation > Source Configuration > More > More > UMD Inputs.
- Use the Input knob to select the input source that you want to set the UMD address for.

Use the UMD # knob to select the UMD input address that you want to
assign to the selected input source.
Tip: Select OFF (UMD#0) to not assign a UMD to an input source.
- Press HOME > Confirm.
TSL Output Switcher Setup
The switcher uses UMD TSL protocol version 5.0 for output signals.
To Set Up Serial Communications
- Press HOME > Setup > Installation > Com Setup
- Press Type and use the Com Port knob to select the remote port that you want to set up for the device.
- Use the Device knob to select Serial Tally.
- Press Select Device and use the Device knob to select TSLOut.
- Press Com Type and use the Type knob to select RS-422.
- Press Com Settings and use the Baud and Parity knobs to select 38400 (Baud) and EVEN (Parity).

- Ultrix — TSL IDs 0-279 represent router sources, including Black, Auxes, and ME-Stores. The TSL information now passes the router source that is on the switcher input.
Note: If the same router source is selected on two or more switcher inputs, the TSL input colors will not be correct. - Press HOME > Confirm.
To Set Up Ethernet Communications

- Server(1) — allows for a single client connection at a time.
- Server(Many) — allows for multiple client connections at a time.

Device Setup
You cannot use UMD Address#0 for an input to the switcher. The switcher uses this address for OFF.
