TASCAM® CD-400U
This setup information applies to the TASCAM® CD-400U.

Cable Connections
The device connects to the switcher over an RS-232 serial connection to a DB9 port on the switcher and a DB9 port on the device, or over a standard ethernet connection.

Switcher Setup
The switcher must be set up to communicate with the audio server using either serial or ethernet protocols.
To Set Up Serial Communications
- Press HOME > Setup > Installation > Com Setup
- Press Type and use the Com Port knob to select the remote port that you want to set up for the device.
- Use the Device knob to select Audio Server.
- Press Select Device and use the Device knob to select TASCAM.
- Press Com Settings and use the Baud and Parity knobs to select 38400 (Baud) and NONE (Parity).

Press Extra Options and use the Option and Value knobs to set the device
parameters.

To Set Up Ethernet Communications
- Press HOME > Setup > Installation > Com Setup
- Press Type and use the Com Port knob to select the net port that you want to set up for the device.
- Use the Device knob to select Audio Server.
- Press Select Device and use the Device knob to select TASCAM.
- Press Com Type and use the Type knob to select Network TCP.

Press Com Settings and use the Client/Server knob to select Client and enter the IP
Settings.

Press Extra Options and use the Option and Value knobs to set the device
parameters.

Device Setup
The device must be set up to communicate with the switcher using the same serial or ethernet communications as you set the switcher up to use.
Note: This information in this procedure is provided as a guide and is based on the current version of
hardware and software that was available at the time of testing. For the most accurate and up-to-date
information, refer to the documentation that came with your device.
Note: The audio server interface can only support up to 20 lists of 60 audio cuts each.
Limitations
The following limitations apply when using a USB drive or SD™ card as the audio source on the CD-400U:
- Custom controls can only cue or play audio clips by cut number. A file name listing of the audio files, including sub-folders, on the USB drive or SD™ card sets the cut numbers for audio clips.
- Adding an audio file to the USB drive or SD™ card with a file name that changes cut numbering will cause custom controls to cue or play the wrong audio clip.
- Ross Video recommends naming audio files with a sequential numeric prefix and only storing audio files in the root folder of the USB thumb drive or SD™ card.
To Set Up Ethernet Communications
- Press the HOME/MENU button.
- Use the MULTI JOG dial to select Serial Mode and press the MULTI JOG dial.
- Use the MULTI JOG dial to select Ethernet and press the MULTI JOG dial.
To Set Up Serial Communications
- Press the HOME/MENU button.
- Use the MULTI JOG dial to select Serial Mode and press the MULTI JOG dial.
- Use the MULTI JOG dial to select RS-232C and press the MULTI JOG dial.
- Use the MULTI JOG dial to select Baud Rate and press the MULTI JOG dial.
- Use the MULTI JOG dial to select 38400 bps and press the MULTI JOG dial.
