To Set Up the Acuity Virtual Panel Virtual Machine

Setup the virtual machine on a server for the Acuity Virtual Panel.

  • Ensure that your server has been properly configured with the VMware® ESXi virtual machine monitor 7.0.2 (or higher). Refer to the information provided with your server and virtual machine monitor for initial setup information.
Note: This configuration has only been tested on a Dell PowerEdge® R450 server. Installation on a different platform may require additional or different steps.
  1. Open a web browser and navigate to the IP address of the ESXi virtual machine monitor you are using to install the Acuity Virtual Panel virtual machine.
  2. Click Create/Register VM to launch the New virtual machine wizard.
  3. Select Create a new virtual machine and click Next.
  4. Select a name and guest OS for the new virtual machine.
    • Name — enter a name for the Acuity Virtual Panel.
    • Compatibility — select ESXi 7.0 U2 virtual machine.
    • Guest OS family — select Linux.
    • Guest OS version — select Other 3.x Linux (32-bit)
  5. Click Next.
  6. Select the datastore you want to use for the virtual machine and click Next.
  7. Click Virtual Hardware and configure the hardware as follows:
    • CPU — select 2
    • Memory — expand the list and select 3 GB in the Reservation field.
      Note: If you plan on running multiple virtual machines on the same hardware, ensure that you have enough RAM to reserve to each.
    • Hard disk 1 — select 32 GB and SATA controller
      Tip: To configure the SATA controller, expand the Hard disk list and click Virtual Device node and select SATA Controller. If the SATA Controller is missing from the list, ensure that Other 3.0x Linx (32-bit) is selected as the Guest OS version.
    • USB Controller 1 — USB 2.0
    • Network Adapter 1 — VM Network (connect), E1000e
    • CD/DVD Drive 1 — Host device (connect)
    • Video Card — Specify custom settings, 16MB
  8. Click VM Options and expand the Boot Options. Configure the boot options as follows.
    • Firmware — BIOS
  9. Click Next and review the virtual machine configuration.
  10. Click Finish.

The new virtual machine for the Acuity Virtual Panel is listed under Virtual Machines.
