This setup information applies to the HyperX®, LEX, and Prime.

Cable Connections

The device connects to the switcher over either an RS-232 serial connection to a DB9 port on the switcher or a standard ethernet connection. The Prime connects to the switcher over an ethernet connection.

Switcher Setup

The switcher must be set up to communicate with the CG using either serial or ethernet protocols, as well as associate the video inputs that are coming into the switcher from the CG with the channel on the device that they are coming from.

Note: There are some restrictions on what features are supported with each version of ChyronHego® CG.

To Set Up Serial Communications

  1. Press HOME > Setup > Installation > Com Setup
  2. Press Type and use the Com Port knob to select the remote port that you want to set up for the device.
  3. Use the Device knob to select CG.
  4. Press Select Device and use the Device knob to select Chyron.
  5. Press Com Type and use the Type knob to select RS-232.
  6. Press Com Settings and use the Baud and Parity knobs to select 9600 (Baud) and NONE (Parity).
  7. Press Extra Options and use the Option and Value knobs to set the device parameters.

  8. Press HOME > Confirm.

To Set Up Ethernet Communications

  1. Press HOME > Setup > Installation > Com Setup
  2. Press Type and use the Com Port knob to select the net port that you want to set up for the device.
  3. Use the Device knob to select CG.
  4. Press Select Device and use the Device knob to select Chyron.
  5. Press Com Type and use the Type knob to select Network TCP.
  6. Press Com Settings and use the Client/Server knob to select Client and enter the IP Settings.

  7. Press Extra Options and use the Option and Value knobs to set the device parameters.
    Note: If you are setting up a Vision switcher, you must select Non-Pro for a Prime CG.
    Note: The Non-Pro option does not support TakeOffline, Clear, or Resume. For clear and resume functionality you must use the Execute Macro custom control and enter the text CLEAR\channel to clear a channel or SEQUENCE\channel to resume a channel. Replace channel with the number of the channel (1-16) that you want to clear or resume.
    Note: The Prime option does not support TakeOffline.

  8. Press HOME > Confirm.

To Set Up a Video Input

In addition to the video/fill input coming from the CG, you must also set up the alpha input and associate it with the video/fill. Refer to your Acuity Setup manual for more information.

  1. Press HOME > Setup > Installation > Source Configuration > Input Type.
  2. Use the Input knob to select the input video/fill source that is coming from the CG.
  3. In the Input Type area, select Char Gen.
  4. Press More > More.
  5. Press CG Setup and use the CG and Channel knobs to select the device that the video signal is coming from.
    • CG — select the device that the video signal is coming from.
    • Channel — select the channel on the device that the video signal is coming from.
  6. Press HOME > Confirm.

Device Setup

The device must be set up to communicate with the switcher using the same serial or ethernet communications as you set the switcher up to use.

Note: This information in this procedure is provided as a guide and is based on the current version of hardware and software that was available at the time of testing. For the most accurate and up-to-date information, refer to the documentation that came with your device.

To Set Up Serial Communication

The switcher communicates with the ChyronHego® using ChyronHego® Lyric® software and the Ross Video-II Translator plug-in. The plug-in intercepts all commands from the serial port and passes the data to the Lyric software for processing.

  1. Ensure that the Ross Video- II Translator plug-in file II Translator.ocx is copied to the Plug-ins folder located in the Lyric main directory.
  2. Ross Video recommends selecting Air Channel for each video processing board installed.
    1. Click Config > Duet Configuration from the Lyric menu bar.
    2. Click the Configure Board Use tab.
    3. Select Air Channel for each video processing board.
    4. Click OK.
  3. Enable Modal Suppression.
    1. Click Tools from the Lyric® menu bar.
    2. Select (check) the Enable Modal Suppressor option.
  4. Disable Prompt to Play on Hardware.
    1. Click Configuration > Preferences from the Lyric menu bar.
    2. Click the Animation Settings tab.
    3. De-select (uncheck) the Prompt to Play on Hardware option.
  5. Ensure the Telnet option is enabled for the Ross Video II translator plug-in to communicate with the Lyric® software and the switcher.
    1. Select Config from the Lyric® menu bar.
    2. Select the Intelligent Interface Setup option.
    3. Select Enable Telnet from the Intelligent Interface Setup dialog.
    4. Click OK.
  6. Enable the Ross Video II translator plug-in.
    1. Select File from the Lyric® menu bar.
    2. Select Ross Video- II translator from the file list.
    3. Click Run.

To Set Up Ethernet Communication

Note: You cannot edit tags from OverDrive® or the switcher when you are connecting to the ChyronHego® over ethernet.
Note: The Prime does not support the TakeOffline command.
  1. Enable Telnet.
    1. Click Config > Intelligent Interface from the Lyric® menu bar.
    2. Select (check) Enable Telnet and No Serial Conn.
  2. Enable Modal Suppression.
    1. Click Tools from the Lyric® menu bar.
    2. Select (check) the Enable Modal Suppressor option.
  3. Disable Prompt to Play on Hardware.
    1. Click Configuration > Preferences from the Lyric menu bar.
    2. Click the Animation Settings tab.
    3. De-select (uncheck) the Prompt to Play on Hardware option.
