Procedures

Use this panel to view and manage the items in a playlist. A playlist contains Inception created social media items, social media items from social media feeds, or both. Taking a playlist online makes all approved items in the playlist available to external systems such as character generators.

Toolbar

Settings — click or tap this icon to edit attributes of the current playlist.

Playlist_-_Toolbar_-_Create_Item.png 

Create Item — click or tap this icon to create a new playlist item. New playlist items are added to the bottom of the current playlist.

Playlist_-_Toolbar_-_Take_Online.png 

Take Online — click or tap this icon to take the current playlist online. When the playlist is online, all approved items in the playlist are available to external systems, such as character generators.

Playlist_-_Toolbar_-_Take_Offline.png 

Take Offline — click or tap this icon to take the playlist offline. When the playlist is offline, items in the playlist are not available to external systems. This icon is only available while the current playlist is online.

Playlist_-_Toolbar_-_Remove.png 

Delete — click or tap this icon to delete the selected playlist item or items for the current playlist.

Playlist_-_Toolbar_-_Empty_Playlist.png 

Empty Playlist — click or tap this icon to delete all playlist items from the current playlist.

Playlist_-_Toolbar_-_Approve.png 

Approve — click or tap this icon to approve the selected playlist item or items for publishing to external systems.

Unapprove — click or tap this icon to unapprove the selected playlist item or items for publish­ing to external systems. This icon is only available for approved playlist items.

Playlist_-_Toolbar_-_Float.png 

Float — click or tap this icon to deactivate the selected playlist item or items without deleting them. Floated playlist items are not published to external systems. Floated playlist items appear pink in the playlist and are identified by a check mark in the Floated column.

Unfloat — click or tap this icon to reactivate the selected floated playlist item or items. This but­ton is only available for floated playlist items.

Playlist_-_Toolbar_-_Discuss.png 

Discuss — click or tap this icon to open the Discussion panel and join a discussion with other Inception users about the current playlist.

Playlist_-_Toolbar_-_Single_Select.png 

Single Select (mobile only) — this icon indicates that you are working in Single Select mode and that you are only able to select a single playlist items from the playlist. Tap this icon to switch to Multi Select mode.

Multi Select (mobile only) — this icon indicates that you are working in Multi Select mode and that you can select multiple playlist items from the playlist. Tap this icon to switch to Single Select mode.

Refresh — click or tap this icon to refresh the view of the playlist.

 

Playlist Table

Use this table to view and manage the items in a playlist. Each row in the Playlist table represents a playlist item. Inception uses the following background shading colors to convey additional information about stories in a running order:

Playlist_-_Background_-_Selected.png Selected — the playlist item is the currently-selected item.

Playlist_-_Background_-_Floated.png Floated — the playlist item is floated.

Playlist_-_Background_-_Verified.png Verified — the playlist item originates from a verified Twitter account.

 

The columns in the Playlist table are as follows:

Avatar — this column displays the avatar image of the social media user who created the playlist item.

Playlist Item Progress — this column displays a color-coded marker that indicates the approval status of the playlist item. Marker colors are as follows:

Story_Progress_-_Empty.png Incomplete — the playlist item is incomplete and may require editing before approval.

Story_Progress_-_Unapproved.png Complete — the playlist item is complete but not yet approved for publishing.

Story_Progress_-_Approved.png Approved — the playlist item is approved and ready for publishing.

Author — this column displays the name of the person who created the item. If the item was dragged into the playlist from the Feed Viewer, the author name is the one associated with the social media account and may not be the real name of the author.

Handle — this column displays the name of the Twitter user that sent the Tweet that was used to create a playlist item.

Verified — a check mark displayed in this column indicates that a playlist item originates from a verified Twitter account. Twitter uses verification to establish the authenticity of identities of key individuals and brands on Twitter. Twitter concentrates verification on highly sought users in music, acting, fashion, government, politics, religion, journalism, media, sports, business, and other key interest areas.

Description — this column displays a truncated version of the playlist item story text.

Thumbnail — this column displays a reference image from the image or video attached to a playlist item.

For Inception to automatically generate playlist item thumbnails, XPression Video Coder v6.2 or greater and Apple QuickTime must be installed on the Inception Server.

Approved — a check mark displayed in this column indicates that a playlist item is approved for publishing. If you have the appropriate permission, you can select this column to approve a playlist item or clear this column to unapprove a playlist item.

Floated — a check mark displayed in this column indicates that a playlist item is floated and not included in the playout of the playlist. If you have the appropriate permission, you can select this column to float a playlist item or clear this column to unfloat a playlist item.

Status — this column displays the momentary status of a playlist item as follows:

Metadata — Inception is retrieving metadata associated with the image or video attached to the play­list item.

Downloading — Inception is downloading the image or video file attached to the playlist item.

Encoding — Inception is encoding the image or video file attached to the playlist item into a format that the Ross Video XPression real-time motion graphics system can playout.

Ready — the video file attached to the playlist item is ready for playout.

Approved By — this column displays the name of the user who approved the playlist item.

Aired (Edit) — a check mark displayed in this column indicates that a playlist item has aired. The Aired status is set manually. If you have the appropriate permission, you can select this column to mark a playlist item as aired or clear this column to mark that the playlist item has yet to air.

Error — displays any errors that occurred encoding the image or video file attached to the playlist item into a format that the Ross Video XPression real-time motion graphics system can playout.

Endpoint — this column displays the endpoint name of the Inception Server in a Horizon system that contains the item.

Locked By — this column displays the name of the Inception user who is currently editing the playlist item and has the item locked. Inception allows two or more Inception users to edit a playlist item at the same time. Inception can only guarantee that a playlist item contains the last changes saved for the item.

Modified — this column displays the date and time of the most recent change made to the playlist item.

Modified By — this column displays the name of the user who last modified the playlist item.

Source — this column displays the social media source of the playlist item.

Copy to Clipboard (desktop computers only) — click this link to copy the Playlist URL to the clipboard on your computer. After copying the Playlist URL, you can paste the URL into applications to direct them to the playlist. External applications or systems use the Playlist URL to access the contents of the playlist.

View (desktop computers only) — click this link to open an RSS reader to view the content that Inception outputs through the Playlist URL. The Playlist URL only outputs the approved playlist items of an online playlist.

Most web browsers have a built-in RSS feed reader. If you use Google Chrome to access Inception, you may need to install an RSS feed reader plugin.

Ctrl A 

Select all the playlist items in the current playlist.

Ctrl C 

Copy the selected playlist items in the playlist.

Ctrl F 

Float the selected playlist item. For a floated playlist items, unfloat the selected playlist item.

Ctrl I 

Insert a new playlist item in the playlist above the selected playlist item.

Ctrl L 

Take the current playlist online. For online playlists, take the playlist offline.

Ctrl V 

Paste copied playlist items into a playlist at the selected location.

Ctrl X 

Approve the selected playlist item. For an approved playlist items, unapprove the selected playlist item.

Ctrl Enter 

Open the selected playlist item in the Playlist Item Editor panel.

Ctrl Delete 

Remove the selected playlist item from the playlist.
